If he wants to listen to my calls, he'll get pretty bored, pretty fast.

And I suppose you don't mind if the govt wanders through your house any time it wants -- if you have nothing to hide.

Or that you don't mind if some thief enters your home, as long as they don't take anything. No harm done, right?

The issue is that the wiretapping was illegal.
It is against federal law (50 USC 1801, 18 USC 2511).

It doesn't matter whether the targets had anything to hide.
If someone violates the law, there should be consequences.
Especially when all the wiretapping could have been done just as effectively by following the laws that already exist.

Illegal conduct is bad. Unjustified illegal conduct is worse.

Why is that concept so difficult for people to understand?

If you have nothing to hide would you mind if I took a look at all of your undergarments ? Can I also read your diary ? How about taking a look at all the porn you have on your computer ? I'm sure I won't find anything illegal, so why would you mind ? I'll tell you why, because I would gain access to private information, while not criminal, can be used against you. At the same time, you will not be allowed to do the same to me. I could blackmail you.
Now you should truly understand why we have the principle of right to privacy. Just because YOU might not have anything to hide in your phone calls. Doesn't mean other people don't. And what they could be hiding is nothing illegal, but in the wrong hands it could cause problems.
By the way can I have the number to your credit card ? Oh, never mind I'll just wiretap your phone to get it.....or find a way to break into your computer. DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW ?!

Apparently you don't understand the Constitution, one of the greatest documents ever written. For us to remain a great country, the constitutional provisions must be protected. And you can't just pick and choose the ones you like. They ALL have to be protected. They are not carved in stone; they are open to attack. And if we don't remain vigilant against those attacks, our rights will be eroded and our country will go down the tubes while you're not watching. More of our constitutional rights have been abridged during this administration than ever before, and it's been possible because too many people, like you, are not paying attention and don't understand how important it is.

If you don't understand and want to protect the Constitution, you are not a good and patriotic American.

Here is the thing If I had anything to hide then the FBI and whatever other agents would have already had me in custody etc. I just hate the shredding of the constitution. I care about the Constitution of the United State of America!!

so you support Bush spying on you. OK. then in the future (with the "War on Terror" still raging of course, how can we claim victory over a tactic?), you won't mind when a liberal gets into the White House and wants to start spying on conservatives? changing laws will bite you in the ***. you may not have anything to hide by today's standards, but the standards change.

hmmm maybe because i'm a private person and would prefer that some government spook not listen in on my private conversations or read my mail. maybe i do have secrets, intimate details of my life i share only with family or intimate friends. i don't have to be doing something illegal to want my privacy and my RIGHTS under the Constitution honored.

folks like you are kinda creepy. i'm not deformed but i still wouldn't want you peeping in my bedroom window.

Your 1-900 sex phone calls aren't boring. I taped a few of them yesterday. I'm just happy to be a part of Homeland Security and able to do my duty.

Well, I support Bush, but I wouldn't want anyone listening in on my phone calls, not because I have anything to hide, but because as an American citizen we have the right to that privacy.

One big reason? Is that the NSA probably hires guys like you for $5.50 / hr to listen to phone conversations.

Because according to the constitution, it's illegal and any information thats gathered through that method would usually get the case overturned in court. Of course, the courts these cases go to don't abide by the constitution either.
