No, because Rap is Rap and Rock is Rock. We should have a Rap Hall of Fame and put all of the rap originators and pioneers in it. There could also be a merger: The Rock and Roll/Rap Hall of Fame.
I think that would be pretty cool and it would almost be like integrating the Hall of Fame, because although both styles are widely accepted by millions of fans from all over the world, rock is predominitely performed by caucasian artist and rap is predominitely performed by african american artist. I do like both styles, but unless they change the name to the one I listed above or somthing of that nature and merge the two styles of music, might as well keep The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as it is, celebrating Rock pioneers.

Run DMC is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, mostly for the way they combined rap and rock and roll. The group they worked with...Aerosmith. It is a pure art form. Many of you may not get rap, and that's ok. People don't get Shakespeare either. Before NWA came out, rap was just poetry set to a beat. The only difference between that and a rock song is there are no guitars. I'm not a fan of the new rap that's out now, but as for the inventors, yes they should be in. FYI not all rap degrades women, causes gang violence, or abuses the language with profanity. Just like not all rock makes you kill yourself, someone else, or sacrifice an animal. I say don't look at the P. Diddys, Jay-Zs, and Dr. Dres, look at Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, and the Sugarhill Gang. Then you will know what rap, and the lyrics are about.

No, it doesn't belong in the R&R hall of fame. When I hear the words Rock and Roll I damn sure don't think of N.W.A or P.diddy. I think of Queen, Little Ricard, Aerosmith, Metallica, Lenny Kravtiz. As much as I like hip'hop and bits and peices of rap, its not a category that goes in the R&R hall of fame. And to the idiot that made the comment saying that all rap does is promote gang violence and degrade women. Not all rap is like that. U shouldn't speak about something that is obvious you don't know **** about. I bet I can name 10+ artist that aren't like that. If that the cause do we need to take a look at death metal, other types of music that has talk about stuff that is way worst then gang violence?

Early hip hop developed out of a tradition that includes artists such as Sly and The Family Stone and James Brown; artists who are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Is anyone going to argue that they should not be there? Not likely. So why should one argue that the artists who came after them should be barred from the Hall of Fame? Rap has its roots in many of the same traditions of popular music as rock music. Simply because rap has morphed into something distinct from rock and roll is no reason to keep rap artists out. To me, this implies that people want to hold it out because it was an innovation. That is ludicrous and goes against the purpose of the Hall of Fame. What we call rock and roll today has very little similarity to what it was in its origins. Yet today's "rock" artists would not be considered ineligible for induction because of that fact.
It's funny, I doubt any of the people who are criticizing the principle of inducting rap artists into the Hall of Fame have actually taken the time to listen to Grandmaster Flash. Instead they criticize him for things that other rappers have done. It makes absolutely no sense. People who are ignorant of the form somehow believe that all rappers should be held collectively guilty for the transgressions of mediocre rappers. What would happen if they judged rock by the standard they judge rap? The entire genre would be discredited for Motley Crue's misogyny or the violence inherent in a lot of hard rock and metal.

Music, like so many things, is blending and melding and crossing over into itself so much that I think it's difficult to separate artists and songs into specific styles anymore. Rap has long been influenced and blended into Rock and Roll songs and vice versa. So, I'd say yes, Rap does belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but only if the rap songs incorporate elements of Rock and Roll.

No, it is not rock & roll by any stretch of the imagination. If there was a rap hall of fame, do you think "puff daddy" and "50 cent" would let Bill Haley in? Do you thin bill Haley would want to be in the same hall as them?

No. It's horrible, very unoriginal, and no rock band in the Hall has silly turf wars with other bands on different coasts.
