Eat 5 clean meals a day focusing on lean protein, low fat dairy, fruits, veggies and whole grains. Drink lots of water and avoid soda, even diet. Do cardio 5 days a week for atleast 30 minutes each time. Make sure you are working hard enough to sweat. Lift weights 3 times a week, making sure to lift heavy enough to exhaust your muscles.

You can also use a site like www.sparkpeople.com to track your calorie intake and how many calories you burn with exercise.

WOW, that is the exact thing I am doing. 50 lbs in 6 months.

I am doing things the old fashion way. No pills, gimmics, surgeries. Just a LOT of water, exercising 4-5 days/wk, eating smaller portions, not eating after about 8pm, eating more veggies and fruits, almost NO fast food, and more of the general more healthy foods. I've lost about 7 lbs. since around the last week of February, but I look like I've lost more than that. Plus, I feel better and the lost weight is my motivation to keep going.

If i have done well, I treat myself to something. If I know I splurged, I either work out a little harder the next time, or some other method of compensation such as not eating as many carbs/cals the next day. All in all, it takes willpower, commitment, and consistency. If you mess up, don't beat yourself up. Walk a couple laps, Smile at yourself in the mirror, and keep going! You can do it.

My tip would be, don't. That's a lot of weight to lose in 6 months, and losing so much so fast can be really unhealthy. 30 wouldn't be too bad, why not try for that?

If you're going to try dieting, make sure it's a diet you can stick to long-term. Once you stop the diet and start eating normally again, all the weight comes back. So use a realistic diet you can stick to. Exercise more too...swimming really gives you a full-body workout, or just tone specific areas. If you're into the gym thing, ask employees, and they should be able to give you specific advice.

With a healty diet and exercise plan, you can safely lose about 1-2 pounds a week. That is 4-8 pounds a month. Theoretically, you could do it but in order maintain proper nutrition and physical health, I don't recommend you try. Give yourself more time...up to a year. Follow up with a nutritionist and possibly consult a physical trainer. Good luck.

Cut all sugar from your diet. Even without exercise, simply doing this will cause the pounds to start dropping away. Depending on your current weight, this could get you most of the way there. Add drinking alot of water and a half hour walk every day and you'll have no problem reaching your goal without weird restrictive diets.
Good Luck.

my tip is that is not a healthy goal.

either 1/2 or 1 lb max per week is all i would recommend.

it would be easier to keep it off that way. 50 pounds in 6 months would either kill you or cause you to regain 60 plus pounds upon relapse.

Six months is a good target for weight loss but losing 50 lbs may not be possible for everyone. It depends on your current % body fat, your current weight and height as well as a complete commitment to a healthy diet and exercise.

To lose weight you need to consume less energy than you burn on a day to day basis.

One web site I found for working out how much you should be eating is:
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/

Since November I have been trying to lose 22 lbs but I soon learnt that the more I exercise the more muscle I put on and my weight stayed the same... then for no apparent reason in one week I lost 8 lbs... Because muscle is heavier than fat... I am now measuring total % body fat by using some calipers and measuring tape. This explains why I am looking more buff but without losing much weight. I have changed by goal weight by targeting a goal total % body fat. (If I want to lose 22 lbs all I have to do is starve myself... but that will make me thin but ain't going to make me any more self assured).

The exercise provides a massive increase in your metabolic rate... it takes 12 x as much energy to sustain a pound of muscle than it does to sustain a pound of fat... so you should try to tone up your muscles to help lose fat quickly. I am not saying you should look like "The Terminator"... but your muscles should be firm.... not flabby.. and not completely encapsulated in lard.

Can I suggest you join a fitness centre.... one with aerobic classes... the group scenario helps to keep you motivated... but if that is not for you.. .get a personal trainer...

I do a group pump class (exercises with weights) three times a week.

On alternate days do a cycle class for 45 mins (I try and do at least 2 if not 4 per week)

I also slip into a swimming squad twice a week and do 3000m in around an hour - hour and half.

I use a vitamin suppliment ... vitamin B is supposed to help your metabolism... adn you will need an adequate vitamin intake with all the exercise you are doing...

Lay off the alcohol, peanuts, potato crisps, french fries etc... you know the ones with all the fat in them.... becuase it is a simple equation of energy in vs energy out... you need to be using more energy than you are consuming to lose weight.

Eat well.

I don't know if you will lose 50 pounds but in six months time you will have the sexiest legs in town (I promise.... well aside from mine that is) if you follow a strict exercise routine committing at least an hour per day of aerobic fitness training towards it.
