The character is so well fleshed out and detailed and "real" that you feel empowered by them? They help you realize your potential as a human being? Is media going backward or forward in showing gay characters?

Also-anyone feel free to look at my other question I posted that never showed up. It asked about comic book characters gay/non gay.

I feel empowered when I see Jodie Foster--acting or in her own skin. She doesn't let being a lesbian take over her life and image--it's a part of who she is, not all of it. She plays strong characters who stand up for themselves (i.e., The Accused). Gay or straight, they help me be strong myself. And I feel empowered by any lesbian who's portrayed as having a normal family life, like Meryl Streep in The Hours. I'm so tired of seeing lesbians being portrayed as either sluts or wanna-be-guys. It's so outdated and so incorrect. All of the lesbian characters in If These Walls Could Talk 2 also are empowering. I hate the way most of the lesbians in The L Word are portrayed. I think the media isn't making a lot, if any, progress in showing lesbian characters.

To be honest with you, I think TV (sitcoms, movies and even news) pretty much shows the superficial side of our community, unfortunally, there are just a few who really shows the real US!.
And No, there is nothing showing our human side on the straigth TV!
