As I understand it, this is the class room assigned to students to meet in for general information. Eg students of 1 A meet in classroom 5.
This then becomes The 'homeroom' and the students become the 'homeroom class'.
Will the homeroom class of homeroom 5 please return there to get their English test results.

In USA schools for ages 12 and up ,most of the time the first class a student goes to is called a homeroom, it is just a classroom where you go and in that class you get any important messages for the day. It is kind of like your "home", you are connected to the school by what teacher's homeroom you are in. Sometimes it is a full class, 45 minutes long or so and sometimes it is about 10-15 minutes long just to get needed information for the day., a check in point.

A homeroom is like a home base. It's a room from which one comes (like headquarters) and goes (to other classes).

Homeroom is the first period of the school day--first class.

This is where teachers take attendance, important school announcements are made, and when schools can pass out important printed materials (Flyers, newsletters to parents, etc.).
