Honostly, i think it is because you just bought these fish, they are just getting adjusted to your tank. Also you might have a tank that is too small for all those fish and they are cramped. How big is your tank? Your fish will be fine as long as they eat, it doesnt matter how long it takes them to do it.
If you want to mate your female betta, get a seperate tank. Put the male with the female but make sure the male doesnt kill her. Make sure to put them in a new tank, or else the male will kill all hte other fish you have. After that just let nature do its course. But remember, after they mate, the male will kill the female unless you remove her.

I'm not sure about your platies, but as for mating your female.. my advice is don't.
But, knowledge is power, so here you go. You get a ten gallon tank with a sponge filter (regular filters are dangerous for the fry- baby fish) and make sure you have a way to regulate the temp. Then, you put some plants in there. Put the male and female in and let nature take its course. The male might bully the female, but with the plants she'll have a place to run off and hide until they are ready to mate. The male will make a bubble nest, that's he'll blow spit bubbles on the water's surface. They'll mate. You'll knwo cause the male will take the eggs and put them in the bubble nest. Once this is done remove the FEMALE. MALE betas take care of the eggs and young, female betas will try to eat the eggs. Basically, feed themale and let him do his thing, raising the babies. Once they are big enough that they can swim around and arent hanging in the bubble nest anymore, you'll have to provide them with some fry food (ask your pet store what kind they have- probably microworms). Take the male out. Now you have a tank of little baby fishies. After several weeks you'll be able to tell (for the most part) which are males and which are females. The males will flare at eachother and start to tussel. take the males out and put each in his own little container (which you'll have to clean). The females can stay together. You'll probably want to find a pet shop or someplace else to take the babies off your hands. You could have as many as a couple hundred fry.
... So, like I said. My advice is.. don't breed em. It's alot of work.

They will soon get used to the new aquarium, and will start roaming about freely in a day or two,as far as breeding is concerned, you'll have to place the pair in a separate tank and provide dim lighting, fill the tank to only half the normal water level, provide adequate surface for the fish to lay eggs such a leaves and smooth pebbles and wait .. :)
But i suggest you don't take the pain cause usually the mother fish dies after delivering the fry and though she will deliver 15-20 fry(baby fish) almost all the babies usually die within the first 2 months.. protecting them from other fishes is also difficult..
