Hey man I actually tried out for some minor league clubs myself several years ago. I was not a pitcher, I was a middle infielder so I can't give you much advice about pitching. But I can give you some advice about what to expect from the whole experience. There are gonna be alot of guys there and the competition is going to be crazy. Basically you have to make them want to keep you there above every other guy. Pretty much at this point you are long shot like I was since you couldn't get drafted. I know teams are always looking for good pitching so that might help you out. If you are lefty that works even better in your favor, where as for me they flat out told me that my glove was ok but that I would never hit for sh_t. They tend to be pretty brutal like that. I would say just try your guts out and make sure they know that you are willing to bust your *** harder than anyone else there, but even then there are gonan be alot of guys there with the same attitude. don't go in there cocky either. These guys have seen talent, and they are not going to be impressed by somebody who talks a big game. Alot of guys think they are gonna mouth their way into the pro's but it rarely works. I saw most guys who thought they were the sh_t and had a chip on their shoulder for not being drafted get sent home during the first cut like me even though they talked a bigger game. Just be yourself and showcase your skills and you might get lucky.

At this point you are either ready or you're not. 2 weeks won't make you ready if you aren't. The only thing you can do right now is stay loose. Don't over exercise but keep working out and eating right. Watch your diet, kill the fast food and soft drinks. On try out day, you will have a very short amount of time so arrive early and get warm and loose. Most scouts and coaches will know in 10 pitches whether you are going on or not. Don't try to impress anyone with control over your curve ball unless they ask. Most will be looking for heat immediately. And if you don't make it, try another team, another league, a Jr college - whatever it takes. Somtimes you catch them when they are looking for a totally different kind of player and sometimes you are that player.

From a former minor league pitcher for 10 years, and 2 tryouts w/ the Texas Rangers and Chicago Cubs I speak from experience. If you throw in the low to mid 90's and have a decent breaking ball, you will get looked at. One of the things that all scouts and coaches (pitching) look for is the ability to hit your spots consistently. Make it a point to hit the outside corners and inside corners w/ your fastball 5 times in a row. If you can do that you prove to them that you have the control to pitch at a higher level. Also, have the most fun w/ your experience possible because you never know if it might be the last time you get to showcase your talents to these type of coaches and scouts.

Good luck and throw strikes
