No it doesn't have to rhyme Most do but many don't. I like the way rhyme varies in poetry though too . Sometimes it's all in one sentence.....or it could be the last word in every other sentence.
Here's one of my favorites that uses both....
Sam McGee was from Tenessee
Where the cotton blooms and blows
Why he left his home in the south to roam
Why....God only knows.

No, poems do not have to rhyme. It's the feelings conveyed and the mental images stirred up by the poem that make it enjoyable. I studied poetry in college and there is so much out there that doesn't rhyme and is so powerful.
As for publishing, there are many routes. Self publishing may be an option if someone could finance it. Alternatively, get hold of The Writers Guild Guide 2007/2008, it has many addresses of publishers and submission requirements. Entering contests is also an idea. A friend of mine was published when she was 16.
Don't hinge your writing on being published. It is not the be all and end all. Why not create a blog of your poetry. An ex girlfriend of mine did this, and got rave reviews from her visitors.

I don't think a poem has to rhyme... I wrote many poems in high school and very few of them ever rhymed. At your age the most you may get published is either in a magazine or a multi-author book, you know where they have like 100 poems from 100 different kids. Be careful though, I've sent some poems to those things and typically they are a scam, they will always publish it no matter how bad it is so long as you pay them.

A poem absolutely doesn't have to rhyme to be enjoyable. What makes a poem enjoyable for me (it varies depending on what kind of poem it is) is either the image it creates or the hidden meaning in it. Some poems are enjoyable just for the vivid mental image they create (Xanadu comes to mind...). Others are fun to read because you have to bend your brain a little to understand what the author is trying to say, and that makes the reading more rewarding.

i dont think it matters whether a poem rhymes or not.. i like one's that have some mystery to them, one's that take a couple of readings or some thought to figure out what exactly the poet is talking about (which is most poems as i have never been good with literature)
id talk to your teachers.. there are a lot of anthologies and contests for students that you can submit poems you have written too.. and if you practice and write some really wonderful poems you may even win a scholarship
good luck.. maybe type "poem anthology contest student" into google and see what comes up

Poems being enjoyable is the very definition of ambiguity. If a poem is enjoyable to you it is enjoyable. And then, do you want your poem to be for entertainment, or to spead a message? if it is for entertainment then yes, it should rhyme partically longer poems. I recomend that you read some long poems like "The Lady of Shalot" by tennyson and "the Cantebury Tales" by chaucer. Wait, your 13. Wait to read cantebury tales until your older.

No. A poem doesn't have to rhyme. There are all sorts of poems that don't rhyme, and yet can be so uplifting and inspirational. Like Heiku's.

A poem is enjoyable
If it is employable
In any situation
As long as it's not annoyable.
Do they need to rhyme?
Well, not all the time
but if you are lucky
they might just rhyme just fine.
