Just rearrange as follows:
108,000 / 80,000 = (1+x)^5
Then you need to take "5th" root of both sides, which is the same as something raised to the power of 1/5.
1+ x = (108,000 / 80,000)^1/5
x = (108,000 / 80,000)^1/5 - 1

You could always take the fifth root of both sides to get:
whatever the fifth root of 108,000=80,000(1+x)
the fifth root is found on your calculator, I can't do it without it...maybe you can...
After you get that, distribute the 80,000 into (1+x). You should know the rest...

108000 = 80000(1+x)^5
Divide both sides by 80000...
1.35 = (1+x)^5
Then raise both sides to the one-fifth power (or equivalently, take the fifth root of both sides)...
1.35^(1/5) = 1+x
Then subtract 1 from each side...
x = 1.35^(1/5) - 1 = .0618587588
The exact answer is: x = 1/20 * 3^(3/5) * 20^(4/5) - 1

Just find the 5th root of 108/80 (your calculator or log table will work just fine), whatever is in excess of 1 is the answer.
