You cover for Allah and Allah alone.
There is no compulsion in Islam and if you are forced to do something then obviously you are not doing it for Islam.
Look in the US and all the female converts (on their own accord) picking up the hijab. It's truly amazing masha'allah!

I'm sure being covered is just the noticeable oppression. Why aren't the men covered? This is just another system that oppresses women. The women go along with it because they are conditioned like everyone else who falls for a dogmatic religion that if they don't comply they are somehow not good and not going to make it to Heaven. All these rules are man made. God doesn't care what the hell anyone wears... I would love for Muslim women to stand up and question things, and open up and be free. Would love to see MORE of Muslim Women!!

Does not bother me one bit, I think its freedom of choice. What bothers me is seeing little children forced to wear it and when it is used to mock us. I think saying I am going to wear a hijab instead of a police uniform and claim it a religious right is ludicris. I guess since I am a nudist I can drive my bus in the nude to practice my religion, I somehow bet they would think that was more offensive. Double standard is all.

I think it depends on their circumstances...not ALL muslim women who wear the outfits are oppressed...some have openly accepted their faith and to them...it is not a big deal.
I think the protrayal of Muslim Women and the Muslim faith in general is negatively emitted by media.
More importantly...think outside the box...do your own research (talk to Muslim Women, understand their faith, research their faith etc) ....knowledge if power...don't stereotype/assume.

*sigh* NO ONE CAN FORCE ANYONE TO DO ANYTHING.
That Muslim woman chose her religon knowing that it requires her to cover herself. She continues to dress like she does because she loves her God and her faith. She CHOSE to marry a man who could very well be pushy and abusive.
Wow..anyone notice any repeat words here? oh..its CHOICE

No, I don't think she is oppressed, I think she is following the traditions and customs of her country. That is her privilege and her right.
