It wouldn't hurt to start out with Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them by Al Franken and Blinded by the Right by David Brock. I think you would find them both very informative.

richard dawkins is an atheist, which is pretty much the same as a liberal. he has written a lot of books i'm sure you would enjoy.
