I have made a thumbnail sketch of the problem. I know which rule is which, but as far as knowing the truth I just can't put my finger on it. This question is a real nail biter. Should we thumb our noses at those who don't believe in the rule of law?

The rule of law....

The term: "rule of thumb" is from the old days when a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick, as long as it was no thicker than his thumb. Quite sexist.

i think the rule of law supersedes the rule of thumb....or maybe it's the other way around....
