Alright well, first off, I have to make a persuasive speech (obviously) the thing is, I'm having a hard time on choosing a topic.

I want it to be interesting, something that I can easily talk about for seven minutes. I'm not too keen on overused topics such as abortion, adoption, death penalty etc. I want something that will be different from what my other classmates might do. There will be one minute extra for the class to ask questions about my topic, so the topic I will choose will have to be something that provides enough information.

I tried going through things and thought about:
-Anorexia: weight loss is a symptom, not a cause.
-Loch Ness Monster: does it really exist?
-Divorce: is it really worth putting a child through?
-Public figures, Private lives: has the press gone too far?

If you think that one of the topics mentioned above is good enough, please tell me. If not, feel free to suggest other topics.

Thank you all so much.

I strongly reccomend that you go for the public figures/private lives topic. However, you will need to change your topic into a statement ("The press has gone too far" or "The press hasn't gone too far" rather than "has the press gone too far") so that it is actually a basis for persuasion.

I chose this for several reasons. For one, If you are in high school, it will most likely be an interesting topic to your classmates, since teenagers are obsessive with regard to celebrities. (Sad, but true.) In addition, there are many ways to gain information on that topic, and you could make interesting visuals, such as making a collage of different tabloid headlines. Finally, I personally agree with your topic and believe that it will work wonderfully in class, because it will invoke emotion in your classmates.

personally, i'd go with the Loch Ness Monster topic you mentioned up there. That seems like it'd be fun to research about (manily because you'd get to see a lot of crazy people weebsties' about it) and it might be looked at as creative and humorous, which, in most cases, will help with your grade.
However, if you don't feel like the Loch Ness Monster will be a good speech, here are some other ideas that i think would be fun to talk about.
-Should Arnold Swarzenager (sp?) be allowed to run for president of the United states?
-Scientology- Legitamate religion or sciene fiction cult?
-Should Al Gore get the Nobel Peace Prize?
-Potatoes: Did they change the course of world history? (yes, a random topic, but if you look at the history of places like ireland and russia, it was majorly influencial, and it would make the audience laugh, and laughter usually always makes a good speech.)
- Is the Internet ruining grammer?
- Does sex ed make a differences in schools? (risky topic here...)
and finally
-Is technology making us dumber?

hope this helps you!

Since you are going to be asked questions about it, I hope it will be something you know a lot about. Is there something you do that most others your age don't ??? some kind of sport, activity, special lessons, special talents, special experience from childhood, special something ???? I feel it is easiest to be persuasive if you know the topic well unless you've been trained in debate, in which case you can win/persuade in almost any situation. Persuade means like sell, what would you like to convince other people of ? It doesn't mean you have to make them agree with you, but in your presentation, you must show passion and knowledge and ownership of what you are trying to sell, something close the your heart, so to speak. If there is something teachers do that you feel is totally unfair, do that, or some school policy you are against and would like to see changed in a realistic fashion.

I would do a persuasive speech about "leasing" a car rather than "buying" a car...it's interesting and it helps the students and the teachers have awareness to the speech topic. To start this project interview a car dealer and collect lots of paper work to show and to discuss with the classmate. On helping them deccide whethere you would "buy or lease"

I like the "public figures, private lives" it could be interesting, but you should really do something you're interested in, something that's appealing to you.
