I need help--I'm too scared to talk to my mom and a gyno is out of the question. So here I am, relying on Yahoo Answers people to give me advice.

For the past few days, my clitoris has been red and when I put pressure on it, it hurts. A lot. The area around it is really itchy, but it hurts to itch. I'm a virgin, and I've never given or received oral. Anyone know what's going on down there?

Like I said, a gyno's not gonna work--I'm fourteen. I asked my mom a few months ago when I'm supposed to start seeing one and she told me I go when I start having sex. So... Yeah.

C'mon, people, PLEASE help. I'm desperate.

I had strep a few weeks ago--I took amoxicillin for ten days. Could that cause a yeast infection?

It sounds to me like a yeast infection which is not sexually transmitted. The most common symptoms of a yeast infection are redness, itchy vagina (inner and/or outer) and maybe a discharge. Since you are still a virgin, don't be afraid to discuss this with your mom. She may be able to help and therefore you can get some medication for the infection.

To answer your other questions... YES antibiotics DO cause yeast infections. And you're mom is right, normally girls don't visit a gynecologist until they are sexually active or 18; however, since you caught your first yeast infection, it will be in your best interest to see one or go to a family doctor to avoid further problems.

You probably have an infection of some sort...you don't need to have sex to get an infection. I'm a virgin, I've had them...not the specific one you are describing, but even as a baby I had a yeast infection.

So as for advice...sounds like you should go to your doctor. Depending on the laws in your state/province/country, you have a legal right to keep your medical information confidential after age 16 (this is in Ontario). If your doctor tells you mom, don't worry, she'll understand; she's probably had her share of infections too!

If you really, REALLY don't want to go to your doctor, and really don't want your mom to know...you could try going to your local pharmacy. Talk to a pharmacist about your symptoms, and see what sort of over-the-counter medication/cream you could get.

You might have a yeast infection or bacterial infection or believe it or not, a vagina that inflames by itself. Please see the gyno ASAP and she/he will give you the right treatment. There is no need to be scared because every female goes through these things and your mom will appreciate it if you tell her because she has experienced these things in her life and I've experienced these things too. I have patients who I see in a regular basis because of vaginal problems, you are not alone.

if you were on antibiotics recently that could cause a yeast infection also new detergents, soaps, dyes, improper wiping, and stress/diet.

get some monistat 7 at the pharmacy and follow the directions. if after following the treatment correctly and you're still experiencing the itching see planned parenthood. they are a good clinic for women and are no cost/donations. they can help you.

i had it before exactly like you described. yeast infection. and yes, antibiotics can cause it. you do not always get a discharge, at least not at first. go to wal*mart and buy monistat and get the one with the big tube and small tube. the small one you put on the outside. you can try the 3 day one, some say the 7 day works much better. i would not recommend the one day cure.

There ought to be no reason to be scared of your mum about this. Teenagers! Ask your mother. You think she hasn't solved this "problem" half a dozen times before for you? No doubt she will take you to a Gyno if she thinks you need to see one, whether or not you have had sex. Trust your family kid. Trust nobody else.

You probably have a yeast infection. Tell your mom it itches down there. I know, embarrassing......but you can get cream to put on your peri area to relieve the yeast and itching. In the meantime, cotton panties (no panties at night) and not too tight clothing.

Sounds like it could be a yeast infection maybe. Do you have any irregular discharge? Does it smell funky down there?
