if it has never been changed and it has run this long don't mess with it, sometimes when you change the fluid after that long the dirt that is up in the transmission will be washed down into critical parts by the new fluid that is thinner than the gunk that is in it now, you should have the filter and fluid changed every 40 to 50,000 miles but in this case I would leave it alone.

Only if it has been a LONG time since the previous fluid change. The reason being is the viscousity changes a little the longer it is used and all the tranny gears get used to that viscousity. When you completely flush it out the tranny can be "shocked" with more pressure and has been known to blow the tranny. If you are unsure when the previous service was done it might be better to leave it or maybe change it maybe 30% at a time the "ween" it off the old fluid.

The "maximum excellent" provider era for ANY transmission is each and every 2 years, in spite of miles. the concept you modify your oil each and every 3,000 miles and your tranny fluid as quickly as in an entire life or one hundred,000 miles is in basic terms undesirable advice. i wouldn't "flush the transmission" yet have them do a prevalent transmission provider meaning they sell off the fluid and alter the filter out and gasket and replenish with new fluid. If there is an inner magnet on the tranny pan (that captures metallic interior the tranny) they'll sparkling this off whilst they drop the pan. stable good fortune!!!

If you have not had a transmission service done, then I suggest you do it.

A transmission flush will remove built up, harmful deposits that have travelled in your transmission's circulation system the whole time.....

Benefits are: Trans will run cooler, your shifting will improve
the transmission will run quieter...
your mileage should increase.

Those who state that you'll break sludge and varnish off and crack gaskets are blowing smoke.

In the future, stick with the factory recommended maintenance intervals....

I did it on my 99 malibu, but not when recomended, I did it late, way late. The new fluid cleaned all the gunk in there and it shifted really hard and sometimes had to rev way up before it finally shifted. It seams to be getting better now, six months later.

Maintenance is good at regular suggested intervals but can harm a bit, kind of, if done later.

If you or anyone you know is somewhat mechanically inclined, you can do it yourself, and save alot of money. I do recommend dropping the trans. pan, draining, cleaning the pan, replacing the filter and gasket, then flushing. Contrary to popular belief, you can flush the whole, and I mean whole transmission at home. http://www.amsoil.com/faqs/ATF_and_Filter_Change_Procedures.pdf
If you get it done at a shop MAKE SURE THEY CLEAN THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND REPLACE THE FILTER when they flush it.

best idea would be to check your owners manual. if there is nothing there maybe take it to the transmission shop and talk to them and express your concerns. I personally have not head of a transmission getting shocked,

no it is not a good idea because after you have it changed it can cause big transmission probs. Only if you did it at every 50,000 miles

After that many miles its a great idea. If its a manual trans then its a cheap/simple change you can do yourself. If its an automatic trans, then you need to take it in because of the special procedure used in changing the fluid, otherwise if you do it yourself you can damage the trans.

If you want to keep the car and if you want it to keep taking you places DO THE MAINTENANCE! It is a good idea. The transmission won't be shocked, they don't have feelings!
