It's not any more risky than at any other time. But be sure and have safe sex, using a condom. Although it's less likely, you can still get pregnant when you're having your period, and you can still contract STDs.

it is just as risky to have sex on your period as it is to have sex when you are not on your period. The only difference is that you both will get real bloody and you will probally have some cramping due to the 'pounding'!!
Just protect yourself the same way you would if you were not having sex, oh put a towel under you so you will not soil the bed or whatever you plan to have intercourse on.

Unless you know your cycle really well and have been charting it, then no, you shouldn't have UNPROTECTED sex during your period. On the otherhand, you can go ahead and have all the sex you want, protected. It can be nice when you are on your period, as long as your boyfriend is okay with that. All you have to do is put a towel down and off you go! Good luck!

It depends. If you have very short cycles, you could possibly get pregnant if you have sex during your period. For most women, however, sex during their period won't result in pregnancy.
