I found a couple crochet patterns for this but no knitting patterns. This vest is long (just below your butt), open in the front and secured with just a small band or such at the chest. If you've ever seen the Brady Bunch Movie, it's like the long purple vest Jan was wearing when she ran away wearing the fro ;o)

If it can't be posted here, just email it to me : stytch180@yahoo.com

Thanks so much!

I'm aware that the vest featured in the movie was crocheted, however, I PREFER a knitted version. Thanks to the poster who pointed me to Lion Brand. Looking at the picture I can start making one using basic knitting stitches.

If you're willing to spend a little ($3.50), I found a knit version on the LionBrand website: http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1922237882.html

That's all I found that was knit. There is also the crochet version of the above one, or the crochet pattern someone else listed.

LOL!! The reason you can't find a knit version is that those vests were almost always CROCHETED.

I don't know about the Brady Bunch version, but if that one was knitted, it was just an inaccurate rendition of what people were wearing at the time.

I was a kid then, and I crocheted LOTS of those for older sisters and their friends during the 'hippie culture' days.

You must have watched that movie on TV last night! I wore these when they were in style, and it was crochet. Lion has a free pattern if you don't mind registering. https://www.lionbrand.com/cgi-bin/register.fcgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcache.lionbrand.com%2Fpatterns%2Fcms-vest.html&secondTry=1
