Terrorism is a concept. It's been around for thousands of years. You cannot fight a concept.
And very little Bush doing is actually fighting against terrorists.
What most people who oppose Bush are trying to stifle is he repeated actions that violate federal law and waste money.
If we're going to fight against terrorists, we should at least be doing it intelligently, efficiently, and using legal methods. Three things that Bush has shown little aptitude in doing.

Thomas Jefferson knew that there could come a time where the executive branch consolidates too much power, with the Congress no longer being a co-equal branch. He feared that, and so he gave the people the power to impeach the president. That is what The Vermont Town Meeting Democracy Tour is all about. That is why the Bushites have their collective panties tied up in knots. That is what they are afraid of. That is why, they attack the messenger and not the message. Their demented cause is lost. Their faith in an unelected president shattered. Their era is ending. History is about to repeat itself. Just as Richard Nixon, in the end, was held accountable, so will the people hold George W. Bush accountable. Nixon was nobody's fool. Bush, quite the contrary. Both, however, will share a common place in US history as failed presidents. George W. Bush will have the distinct dishonor of being the worst president the United States as ever had, and the country may never recover from it.

I know terrorism exists.
I also know that occupying foreign countries and attempting to control the civilian populations with a standing army is NOT the way to win the "War on Terrorism".
I know that kidnapping and torturing foreign nationals around the world is a bad idea.
I know that I do not have the same unreasonable fear of the terrorists that many seem to, and I give them a lot less credibility than most of the conservatives I know.
If 9/11 was a one-in-a-million shot and all the cosmic coincidences aligned to allow the successful attack, without any defense from the largest most technologically advanced military and defensive systems, then another similar attack would have be HIGHLY unlikely even with the pre-9/11 law enforcement system.
Given the coordinated federal effort at 100% information retrieval on all persons, banking, phone use etc, I can sleep soundly at night knowing that big brother will detect them.
I do not believe, however, that if we leave Iraq, the terrorists will follow us. How? Will they jump on board their air force's jets and fly over here? Will they charter a fleet of civilian aircraft?
"I'd like to check this RPG please." or
"We carry our AK-47's for religious reasons, you have to let us on board!"
Time to be reasonable about the threat the terrorists pose. You are much more likely to die from a medicinal mistake or reaction, hit by a drunk driver, or struck by lightning, than you are to be anywhere near a terror event.
We could easily protect ourselves without stomping through the middle east trying to kill the scattering cockroaches, creating more and fertile recruiting grounds for our enemies.
We could protect ourselves also without surrendering our protection under the Bill of Rights, or our moral standing by allowing torture.
I do not hate America. I served proudly for 14 years. I have dealt with the disability that cut my service short since then.
It is my duty, in accordance with the Oath I swore, to speak out when I see that the policy is flawed.
The "War on Terror" is an over-reaction based in large part to irrational fear induced by the this administration, the Republican and Democratic parties, and the corporate media since 9/11.
How long can all of you stay scared for?

They voted for it, now as usual to try and get a Liberal President, they are against it. Actually same reports that Bush acted on, Clinton Administration had on record as being true also, now Liberals are just doing their normal thing, which is wrong. If Libs cannot turn America into a communist country, they are not happy. I do think they need to hit the exit door, and leave the war to people who know exactly what to do, which is stay the course and win.

Terrorism is a act which does little physical damage to few people but does widespread damage thru fear. Its nearly impossible to stop and is far from cost effective to control. The best way to handle it is to ignore it like you would a child who won't stop asking for a toy. Terrorists crave attention, when you rid them of that they are powerless. The money spent on anti-terroism since 9-11 has been the single biggest pork barrel spending the US has ever had.

Typical Nazi attitude. Narrow minded my way or the highway thinking. No one says or believes there is no terrorists or terrorism it is that some of us are smart enough to know who the terrorists are and their motivation. We aren't just barbarians acting like Mongo in Blazing Saddles movie or like Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds movie.
You won't see any "libs" leaving on the contrary they will stay and dance in the streets when the Democrats win the presidency by a landslide like the 1964 defeat of Barry Goldwater by Lyndon Johnson and usher more Democrats into Congressional seats, enough to actually do something progressive once again. Finally the nation will go forward instead of backward or be stagnant as it did over the last 6 or so years.

My question is why do conservatives pretend there were terrorists in Iraq before we riled them up, overthrew the government and in effect made the country a terrorist haven?
I would also like to know why we invaded Iraq, where NONE of the WTC terrorists were from and did not invade Saudi Arabia, where the terrorists were actually based?

While you were warming your butt on a couch, I was out putting mine on he line for my country. I was on a deployment for the US Navy during 9/11. That's how much I hate America.
I will not, however, give up the very rights that I fought for because I hear "boo terrorist!!!" from the right. I'm a little smarter and a whole lot braver than that.

I would guess none of them have died, or had friends or family die, as a result of a terrorists bombs?
Maybe they need to hang out in tall buildings, and await the next attack, before they will believe we are in a war of self-defense.
