This is easy to remedy, just clean it first with either White Vinegar or Ammonia use neat and scrub then rinse out after you have cleaned it then turn upside down to dry in the sun, when dry add some Baking soda and a little regular kitty litter, not clumping formula. to the bottom of the trash then just toss in a folded up section of newspaper, no colored section on the bottom of the trash can, add fresh newspaper weekly when trash has been emptied. Good Luck !

Hi there. Inspect the can after it has been emptied. Fill it with 5 gallons of hot water, ammonia (1 cup) and let it soak 4 hours. Buy a cheap toilet brush from the dollar store. Scrub out the gunk which could attract rats and other unhealthy critters. Empty and rinse. Let it air out. This should be done monthly and all garbage placed in it should be in strong trash bags. Happy spring cleaning.

Clean it with Vinegar or Clorax and let it soak , it will take the smell out . And then if you put a garbage bag in your trash can , put a Fabric Softner paper on the bottom .
It works !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have always washed mine with straight Pine Sol and then dumped Baking Soda in it once rinsed with the garden hose.
Works great and unlike bleach it will not kill your lawn.
Hope this helps.

Bleach that would kill the smell and any bacteria that's growing in there, just make sure that you rinse it well after letting it sit for a little while.
