This is a question for your mom, or your doctor. If you don't feel you can ask them, than go one of the tampon sites. You can also go to medbroadcast.com, mayoclinic.com, or other reputible health sites. They will probably tell everything you need to know. You can also buy a box, and read the very long pamplet that comes with them. Make sure you use them properly, for you can get toxic shock syndrome and die, if you don't.
Hope that helps.

Actually your better off using a pad for the first few cycles at least so you can see exactly what your cycle is like, what it does and when and how much absorbtion you'll need. Also a lot of younger girls periods are very inconsitent so it may be hard to guage and determine when and what size tampon you'll need, which may make tss more likely.
Ummm.., what sierra says is partly true, but partly not true. Although you *could* tear your hymen using a tampon, most hymens typically stretch enough to let a tampon pass without tearing, and they make slim tampons like Tampax Satin Teen specifically or that. Even if it does tear, it's not a big deal, it has to tear some time, and it has nothing to do with you being a virgin or not. There have been plenty of cases of women going to the hospital to give birth and the doctor findind her hymen still intact, and has to surgically remove it. Now they were obviously NOT vigins, but their hymen was elastic enough to just stretch and not tear during sex. so just goes to show, just because you have a hymen doesn't mean you;re a virgin, and not having one(some girls are born without) or having a torn one doesn't mean you're not a virgin.

yes, you can use it on your first period.
i prefer tampax pearl, or any tampon with a plastic applicator/inserter whatever... the cardboard ones hurt really bad...
all boxes of tampons come with an instructional paper inside, and it will show you exactly how to put it in, what it should feel like, how to take it out, what kind of tampon suits your period flow, and things to remember while wearing one.
i personally only wear tampons when i'm wearing thongs or when i'm wearing something that would make it obvious that i'm wearing a pad, but i always wear a thin pantyliner if i'm wearing a tampon, just in case my flow is heavier than i thougth and it leaks a little. saves some humiliation.

Yes, you can use a tampon for your first period, just make sure you change it every 8 hours, preferably less to reduce the risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. However, all I wear are tampons, and though expensive, the best are Tampax Pearl.

Yeah you can use tampons and my favorite is playtex gental glide.. don't get anything that says its made of cardboard look for the plastic applicator. They are way easier to put in. The thing with tampons is that you have to get them in all the way the best way to test if its in correctly is after you have put it in.. sit down on a chair or the toilet top if you can feel it its not in far enough take it out and try again with another one... you don't want to leave it in if you can feel it cuz you'll feel uncomfortable all day!! Good luck

I never used tampons.I hated the idea something stuck in me all day long.I use the pads only.I think you should use the pads first. Then next period use tampons. The best tampons is kotex. You will have to change tampons more than pads. Also tampons not good for real heavy periods.Use pads since you too young to have relation.

Yes, you can use a tampon. However, if it's your first time using one then you may want to try some of the smaller ones. On the box it would be marked as slim or something along that line. I suggest Playtex. Anything with a plastic applicator is easy to use because they go in easily.

Yes, you can use during your very first period. And, you might find that "playtex gentle glide" works well for you--it goes in very easily.
Make sure to not wear the same tampon for more than 8 hours (to prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome)!
