The Soviet Union positively participated in the Korean war collaborating with the North Koreans with MiG jets flown by Russian pilots. They blew out of the air a good number of American planes.

I have no information about the USSR participating in Viet Nam.

The USSR was VERY involved in both conflicts.

The North Koreans flew Soviet made Mig-15 fighters, had Soviet made tanks and weapons. Many of the pilots of the Mig-15s during Korea were Soviet.

During Vietnam, almost all of the anti-aircraft missiles were Soviet (SAMs), and most of the weapons used by the NVA and Viet-Cong were Soviet.

As far as Jose's answer....the US kill ratio in Korea was 7:1 (seven Migs shot down for every US plane), and 5:1 in Vietnam.

The Soviet Union was indeed involved with both wars. The Soviets sent pilots as both observers and trainers for the North Korean air force. They supplied weapons, ammunition, and above all, money to their cause. The same applied in the Vietnam War. The Soviets supplied the North Vietnamese with surface-to-air missile systems, weapons, ammunition, medical supplies, advisers, and money. Just to name a few things.

They were indeed involved in both wars.

The North Koreans used Soviet supplied weaponry as well as Soviet fighter pilots. The Chinese supplied ground troops who stopped the UN forces who had been pushing north and forced them back.

The North Vietnamese were also supplied by the Soviets and also had Soviet advisers.

Presumably because both Korea and Viet Nam border China, not the Soviet Union. Thus a communist expansion across the borders would have to have come from China, not the USSR.

However, the matter is far more complex than that. While the People's Republic of China and the USSR were nominally comrades in support of world communist revolution, China and Russia have not always had cordial relations. Since WWII, there were border skirmishes here and there as well as hegemony disputes with other small nations.

The Soviets mostly kept us busy after WWII by messing around in the Middle East (they gained influence in India and Egypt) as well as Africa, where they supported revolutionary governments in the old Belgian Congo. They also had Cuba, supporting Castro's regime and his expeditionary armies in Angola and parts of South and Central America.

In general, I think you could say that North Viet Nam and North Korea pretty much did their own fighting with only minimal technical assistance from either China or the Soviet Union. They didn't need that much help, being determined and resourceful fighters who stopped us dead in both conflicts. But as others have said, there was substantial financial aid from the rest of the communist world.

They were not officially, but Russian pilots flew for the North Korean Air Force, and the USSR supplied arms to both North Korea and North Vietnam

Actually they were involved in both wars. In the Korean war the Soviets played the roles of advisors, suppliers, and (MIG jet fighters) combatants. In the Vietnamese war, they also played the role of the advisors, and suppliers (SAM missiles), but it was the Chinese who assisted in the role as combatants. Your teacher may know History, but not Military History.
