Driving down the highway at 6am and my driver's window just exploded inward. There was no one close to me on road, I didn't see anything come towards the car. There is no damage to the frame or the body except small scratches on the body from the broken glass. The temperature outside was about 60 degrees. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? The window was totally shattered. My car is a 2004 - anyone have any ideas?

I couldn't find any evidence of being shot at, but then again, there wasn't but a small bit of glass still in the door. Rest of it was on the floor, my seat, the backseat, etc.
Going about 80 mph.

My guess is someone either fired a BB at your window (or something similar), or someone threw a rock at your window (though I'm guessing you would have said you heard something go "bang"), or a piece of debris was thrown at your car from a passing, or nearby car (rocks can skip for a couple of hundred yards).

The other suggestion would be to check your car manufacturer's website (or local dealership) and ask about any problems or recalls related to your side window exploding inward.

However, if I was forced to guess, it would be an exterior impact of some kind forcing the window inward. Best of luck.

scratches on body of car, yet the window exploded inward. How did the scratches get there? The window is made of safety glass which likely would not have scratched it anyways at 60 degrees, there wouldn't be a chance of temperature differences being high enough are impossible.
The only explanation would be. Something hit it, or a stereo system that is way over powerful for the vehicle and sound pressure imploded. or a hard bump in the road caused fluctuation within the door window chamber implemented in the channel feed resulting in flexing of the glass, which would be a manufacturing flaw unless you jumped a cliff or something.

Could someone have shot at you with a bb or pellet gun? I had a rear window go bang and completely spiderwebe once, at -30 in the winter. It didn't completely blow out because it was multi layer with wires in it, so I found a small impact point that tells me it was shot out.
