I just finished a small claims case (as the plaintiff fortunately). Before court actually got underway, the bailiff urged everyone to try to settle out of court because judgements will go on your credit report and haunt you for seven years. The judgments are public record and the reporting bureaus hire people to go through those records at least once a week.

PS: mine is in CA also

I have a judgment against me. It has not been reported to the credit agencies yet and it's been about two years, My judgment will continue to add 18% interest until paid in full.

Right now, it's not hurting me. It's a land lien, though, and if I want to buy or sell a house I won't be able to without paying it off. In other states, they can garnish your wages, but I'm in Texas and they can't do it here.

It will if the creditor reports it to a credit agency.

In MIchigan, they can get a judgment against you but there is no way the courts will enforece it.
about all we can do here is to report it to the agency.
