NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF THE RELIGIOUS CULTURE IN COLONIAL AMERICA
1.-colonial era last around 300 years and over from 1492 to 1800 the century when America nations start the independence processes. during those three centuries aprox. 33 millions of indigenous people was killed by war, illness and slavery by Europeans hands just in the first 100 years
2.-those methods was supported by catholic church and the European royalty. in documents recorded in the universal history, Fray Toribio de Motolinia wrote his memories that:
a) It is right and by law to make war to another culture to freedom the innocent ones from the idolatry sacrifices.
b) is right and licit to make war to set the way for the faith
c) it is right and licit to make war and slavering those who are defeated , they are useless creatures any way, and this is the only thing that they could be used.
as the history says, by example, in Santo Domingo was a population of about 3 millions before Spaniards. in 1492, in 1536 only 125 persons of total population remains.(s. cook, w borah)
3.-Religion was brought to this continent with the main reason of spread the truth and evangelizes those was "lost in the sin". that means love, justice and education must become the way to reach this goal. perhaps violence, tyranny, cruelty and racism was used by conquers to perform exploitation, massive piracy, cultural destruction, oppression, racism, and genocide.
4.-Some men from Catholic Church was really interested in the evangelization of the people in this continent, but the majority of they was more interested in the wealth of this land.
5.-Religious introduction to this continent did brought confusion to the people already here, because the methods used. Religion was related always with terror, people’s affairs was always the best way for the conquers to get from the indigenous people what ever the wants, first torturing them, killing them , then with the church aid arising them of be in the" hell" if they was not giving them what they was asking for, people with the new mentality, (descendents after two o more generations), was already "educated" with the twisted evangelization that they did develop especially with these proposes, and knew that the hell it was something that they will suffer for ever if they was unforgiving by the priest for any fault that the did do. Dignity lost and humiliation was the result of this new tough .
with this some other consequences of negative effect became:
6.-social differences,
7.-racism
8.-ignorance, which it is in some way a manner of slavery, because “the one who it is enclosed in ignorance, is slave of hate and it is already death.”
POSITIVE EFFECTS OF THE RELIGIOUS CULTURE IN COLONIAL AMERICA.
1.-with out the introduction of the church getting involved in the conquer invasion of Europeans to this continent, the results could be worst(perhaps i could say nothing could be worst that the holocaust of between 70 to 100 millions of persons in the past 500 years as Stannard says in his book AMERICAN HOLOCAUST and Chomsky in his book YEAR 501)
2.-Some cultures of this continent did performs human sacrifice in their religion, Aztecs by example did sacrifices the war prisoners after it, as an holocaust to the gods
this was stopped with the new religion, perhaps the catholic church was performing slow motion killing during the colonial era by inquisition procedures.
3.-in the most of the cases, independence was began by the members of catholic church in the most of the countries in America, and because the close relation between people and church it was easy for they to get the population following in this matter, that could be not that easy if some one civilian was trying to do so, the success of the independence wars was reached because the church was directly involved.
As the history shows, i could give you more negative effects than positive effects, but, you can read, there are some other books those you can study and then you can by yourself to say was good or was not good for America(before was called Anahuac) the religious introduction of the evangelism.

There's a certain theist that has a positive effect on me every second of the day. The last real negative effect was 2 years ago, when I was locked in a room and a person attempted to convert me.

The negative would be the repression of people's emotion, religious tension between groups, religious intolerance of non-Christians and the positive effects would be the reshaping of Christian religion from old European ways to new American ways and also the different aspect that diverse ethnic groups brought to Christianity.
