Though there are people without a sense of smell, so I guess I'm back to Square one!

Loneliness is unexplainable. You could be lonely without any reason at all. It doesn't matter how many people there are in the place you're at,how many friends you have, what matters is how you adjust and act towards these things and events that's happening in your life. Actually, its a decision to be lonely or not. If you choose to be sad upon a thing that caused you this, then you will do so. But if you want to end it, the solution is in your hands. The events, the people are the things that don't matter when your lonely. it's only YOU that matters the most. =)

If you don't connect to others in a two way nurture/need relationship it can be very lonely. The trick is to plug into the universe and all that it has to offer spiritually (not necessarily religiously) and you won't be lonely ever....
Read Dr. Wayne Dryer's books. They're about this very subject.

You can be in an auditorium filled with people and still be the only one there. It is all in how you want to interact with others that makes us lonely or not.

The mind is the only solitude that we can have. It may be a good thing at times, or a bad thing. It is relative to the situation that we find ourselves in. I too am alone in a world of people. I will be able to break the solitude someday, and I am hoping that you will do the same. Good Luck.

Human beings are social creatures; we are best when we are together. Someone without strong friendship or kinship ties is bound to feel isolated and lonely.

sallam wr wb,,,most people are lonely. and they hate it. they can not stand to be alone bye them selves or with no noise on. every day people are surrounded by people and never speak or interact with any of them. they do not know you. they do not understand you. me? I am NEVER alone. Allah=God is always with me. If one believes in God=Allah then it is easy to explain. if they do not? then they will ALWAYS have that empty lonely feeling.
When God=Allah created Man. HE created HIM in HIS image. and he made it so a small part of him. would always have a place for God in it. no matter what you do, or how you do it. with out God+Allah+Jehova etc. You will ALWAYS be lonely. Humans? they will always betray you and let you down.

Do you know billions of people? And even if you do, how many of those that you know like you? How many of those that like you do you like? Have you done anything recently to make them angry, or to disappoint yourself? Have you made any changes in yourself or your location recently? Answer those questions and you should find your own answer.
