Almost 100% it was "Holiday"

OKAY I looked it up. "Holiday" was her first Top 40-1983: Borderline was her first top 10-1984

Everybody" is a pop—dance music song written by American singer Madonna as her first single, it later appeared on her debut album, Madonna (1983). It was produced by Mark Kamins, and received a mixed reception from music critics. The song was released as a single in the fall of 1982 (see 1982 in music) and was a top five dance music hit in the United States, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot Dance/Club Play Chart.

If we're talking the ARC Weekly Top 40, then it would, in fact, be Like a Virgin.

The Madonna's Achievements and Awards [Wikipedia] page should help find what you're looking for, but chances are it was Like a Virgin. :)
