PVC pipe is not going to withstand a line drive, especially not on a cold day.
One thought - and this is MAYBE... Fill the PVC pipe with sand, then duct-tape the entire pipe. The sand will give you weight and keep the pipe from compressing too far inwards when struck with a baseball. The duct tape will give a little resiliency to the pipe and keep it from splintering and weakening.

yes, but it will be pretty unsturdy, but it will work if its cemented in or has a very strong foundation
