With my daughter I did not dilate or eface until they put the pitocin in the IV a week after my due date. Then she came so quickly! The nurse told me that she would be there about six hours from that time and she made her arrival within 15 minutes!

It's not really possible-For you to begin labor--you have to be open and start pushing--with the contractions--but if you are not dilated at all--you will not be able to do that--dilation is a part of the labor process--I wouldn't worry if I were you--Your due date is just an estimate--You may pass that date by several weeks...Your doctor may decide to speed things up and induce you--but I wouldn't recommend it--it jumpstarts your body into labor and not everyone reacts well to it--Just trust your body--You'll start dilating when you are meant to--be patient--and Good Luck:)

It is absolutely normal. Some people dont dilate at all till they are about to go into labor, others (like me) are dilated for weeks before birth. It just depends on the person.

It's fine if you don't dilate before you go into labor. You can try doing squats leaning slightly over your stomach which will put pressure on your cervix and help it start dilating. Best of luck.

It is not unusual. I've heard many mothers say the same thing. I didn't dilate at all until induced. I was in full blown labor, albeit induced, and never truly dialated and ended up with c-sections both times.
Is this your first child?

It is fine to not dilate before you go into labor as long as when you start to get contractions you begin to dilate at a good pace otherwise they will have to interfere with the natural process and take measures to dilate you faster.

Pretty much so. My mom didn't dialate until just minutes before labor. When my sister was born the doctor checked my mom and nothing, he was actually going to send her home! He left the room and as the nurse was trying to help my mom off the exam table mom dug her nails into the nurse's arm almost drawing blood, the nurse laid mom back down and checked and mom was dialated and my sister was making a grand entrance! (or exit)

Yes its fine...Not all women dialate before labor begins..Some women have to be induced for contractions to start *especially for first time mothers*...U can try walking a lot, cleaning and having sex...all of these really do help with starting labor naturally...Good Luck!

it's not unusual to go a week or 2 over the due date so not dilating isn't uncommon.
