Math problem on Area?

Question

Cover a wall with square tiles that are 4 in. on a side The wall is 7 ft by 8 ft. How many tiles are needed?
ok i got 504 tiles but my friend got 42 tiles which one of us is right or is both of us wrong

7 X 8 = 54 square feet

with a tile 4"x4" , 9 tiles would fit into a square foot.

9 X 54 = 504

There are 12 inches in a foot

7 ft x 12 inches = 84 inches

84 in x 96 in = 8064 in squared
8064 sq in/16 sq in = 504 tiles

This is not a mathematicians way of doing this but it works.

Your friend has the right idea, but she figured that the tiles were 1 foot by 1 foot rather than 1/3 of a foot x 1/3 of a foot.
