I think it depends on where you're at. Right now isn't show season, so there won't be much going on unless you want to travel down to the east coast. You can find popular venues and an event guide through your barn and google. It all depends on where you're at.
I compete on the hunter/jumper circuit in Canada on my bay OTTB, Spyder. We compete during the summer all over AB.

I think you should start expiramenting in the english riding style-- there are so many other events you can get into with english! Eventing, endurance, cross country, show jumping, dressage and more! Learning to jump is one of the funnest things you could do, every day is a new experience and it require strategy and wit! Take some lessons with an english riding instructor and start to learn the basics, if you have your own horse you can start teaching him english as you both learn together! If you like it enough you can buy your own english saddle and continue lessons until you are ready to compete, english is very hard and takes a lot of time and patience, so don't expect it to come right away!

I compete in showjumping. It's great fun and really gives you an adrenaline rush. Juz make sure your horse is fit and trained to jump.
