the letters r appearing as numbers every time i type i have to hold down fn buttom i am getting frustrated please help

Just look at your keyboard... it is on the upper right. Possibly sharing a key with another button. (i.e. your scroll and num lock might utilize the same key) the way you activate or disactivate your numlock would be to hold FN down and press that key. Like i said just look at your keyboard more carefully (towards the upper right) and you should see Num Lk written on a key.

on the number part of the keypad - directly above #7.

in my toshiba satillite, it is fn + F10
try fn + F11 also
