I really need help sparking my writing again. I haven't writted much since early last year and I have been encouraged over and over again that I need to pick up the pen and start my writing again and finish some uncomplete stories. But I haven't even been able to get my creative writing drills going. I need help. Anybody out there, can offer me advice or swing drills back and forth at each other. Would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, some time. Some times busy for a day or two.

I'm not sure that the same thing works every time, so I try different ways to get started. Sometimes I write a journal; I like to use things that happened to me in the past; I like to try fiction of a time in the past, like being in the court of Henry the VIII; I like to just do stream of consciousness and see if I can make anything out of it when I've done a few pages. I sometimes use stories my grandparents told me, too. I feel that if I can just start anywhere, I'll go back and chop off the first paragraphs (usually awful) and keep going from there. Undoubtedly there are other ways, but I try to do the starts that generally cause my mind to think.

The biggest thing that works for me is to treat your writiing something like a job - set aside 'x' number of hours every day and devote it to your writing. If I've had to stop for a while and need to get back into the swing of things, I reread my work - sometimes all the way from the beginning. It's good to do that from time to time anyway. You would be surprised at the mistakes you miss before. Above all, have fun - I do.

Join Absolute Write Water Cooler and advertise for one there. I gotta warn you though - writing with a partner is tough. I do both. Half my books are with a partner half are not. We have had some knock down drag out screaming matches at times. But we always seem to resolve it in the end. Partner writing is really complicated. C.

Hang around children during play, or story time at the library etc. Children's imaginations, and innovation can be infectious should you let it be, and get involved with them.

God bless.
