Not just you. Popular music these days are from artists concerned with image rather than the message their songs are sending. There are some genres getting better too, but they are not widely appreciated.

im like agreeing and disagreeing. Sure the rap and stuff like that is getting really annoying really fast. Those songs are about drugs, jail, and crap like that. Then again, right now, really the only things rock songs are about are usually about what happened in their love life recently and stuff. And not only that, but lately there havent been a lot of bands that can acutally play live. They like use all this money during the recording session, but they suck in concert. BUT yeah, music will eventually get better again. Stick with the artist u like now, and when u hear something on the radio u think is good, listen to that persons songs and see if u like them too

Like that song "This Is Why I'm Hot"? Yeah, I agree.
That's why I listen to The Offspring! 1989 up through today, and they're still awesome, and underrated.
And other old stuff from the 90s. Just listen to that stuff until something good comes along again. It'll bring back memories and keep you happy. Who says you have to be with the times?

Music has sucked all of the time, it's just not remembered. Hillary Duff, My Chemical Romance, and other pop sensations and one hit wonders will fade eventually, and REAL artists will hopefully take their place as the defining music of our time. The 60s and 70s in what I think of as the heyday of good music, had it's annoying poppy bands, but they have been forgotten, and now all that's left is the Stones, the Who, The Beatles, and other real artists who truly changed the face of music.
KC and the Sunshine Band went away, Didn't they? So will the bad stuff on the radio today. Britney Spears is already on her way out!
Don't despair!
P.S. I know I'm just asking for it with that My Chemical Romance reference. Tough.

well. there could be different perspectives to answering your question. here is mine. yes. most of the **** played on the radio and played on MTV, sucks. im not saying that those garage bands who only have 1-20 people go to their shows are any better. look at the real bands with the good music, Black label society still kicks ***, shadows fall, lamb of god, trivium,DRAGONFORCE!!!. It seems like with those bands, its ******' insane in a great masterbationful way. the guitarists are insane. notice how the greatest bands ever have always had that riff that everyone wants to learn when they pick up a guitar. no matter how simple it is. such as Black Sabbath's Iron Man.

Not true at all actualy. Music is getting better and better. You just need to look outside whats on the radio and pop music. In every genere you could think of there are at LEAST 100 bands that are somewhat known in that circle who make great music. Its just mainstream only wants one or two types of artists who can make them a quick buck. Do a little looking around, im sure you will find some amazing music, and that you will change your oppinion on todays music.

You're getting old. That's all. Most cr*p played on the radio and MTV is geared to the younger generation so it's not a surprise that once you're past your early twenties you start becoming discriminating. Even songs with so-called messages in them don't mean mch because the messages are probably not new, and you've probably heard someone who can say/sing it better.
Anyway, my point is your feeling is a natural one

well, pop music and country music and rap music suck all the time no matter what year it is. But some rock bands have been trying to be better by being worse. kinda hard to understand, but they've started to suck over the years by trying to be like other bands. :/ What has music come to ?

All the good bands are either foriegn to the U.S. or indie. Right now the Finnish has at least Poets of the Fall and another band, whose names escapes me.
Devic's Push the Heart (a band that's been around since at least 1995) is good.

I totally agree. I end up turning the radio off in the car now. All the stations have gone back to playing old music, because there is just no new stuff. It depresses me. I totally feel you on this one!

i agree 100%, if you're talking about pop music...
i think some more underground stuff is actually getting better...i listen to a lot of metal and i think some of the newer bands are amazing!
but i can see where you're coming from...i have cd's of all the music from woodstock and it all is awesome! if they had a music festival now of the "popular" rock bands..it'd freakin suck
