I was shopping at Hot Topic ( shut up lol ) and I was just checking out some of the funny novelty tees. Not a big deal. I also found some band tees that I liked, and some really cool black jeans with some chains on the side, but I would probably remove them. Here are the clothes;

I don't have very many clothes, and the one's I do are mostly striped. I have zero black jeans and one other black shirt. The other black shirt has a smiley on it. I have barely any shoes, just black high tops, and zero perfume. I just want to change it up a bit.

Do you think I'm goth?!
Goth is like.. uh.. scary.
I do listen to metal and hardcore punk. But there is nothing wrong with that.. right?

A Mom here, I just went through this same thing with my daughter. I told her she was goth too. (She LOVES Hot Topic). She doesn't have the goth personality but she likes the clothes. I compromised with her. I allowed the T-shirt, not the pants. I allowed these pants http://www.hottopic.com/hottopic/store/product.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302028387&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442148973&bmUID=1174192628254. The shoes were ok, she has the same ones. I actually like the shoes. She also purchased some shirts that were more brightly colored. Maybe your mom and you can reach a compromise like my daughter and I did.

Every generation has their fads. Unfortunately, this one, where everyone wears black, seems to have lasted about 20 years. Did your mom say you can't get the clothes or did she just say she thought they were goth?
I am a 45 year old mother and I really don't see anything "bad" about the clothes you gave links to other than they're kind of ugly, but you wouldn't want someone my age liking them anyway, right? I mean that's the whole point of adolescent "fads" -- even ones that are so pervasive they have become kind of a teenager uniform. But then again, I'm not sure how old you. My answer might change depending if I knew that. I can absolutely say though that there is no way I would let those Ace Hardware jeans spin around in MY wash machine and dryer ... not unless you had enough saved up to pay for any repairs!

Shelly- Your Mom is a puppet of the Devil himself.This what you need to do ASAP. Get some Reynolds Aluminum Foil and wall paper your bedroom walls 3-ply even the ceiling .2) check all pets for listening devices be sure to check behind ears and under tongues yes even kitty 3) If you got a little brother age 6-10 he's going to be trouble. Lock him in the closet for now I'll think of something.4) get your favorite Lords of Acid cd out and crank that bad boy up all.......what? no LofA? Well Dwight Yokum will do for now. What till about 300-330 AM and crank it up. Be sure your wearing as much black as posible.After about say 2 hours come strolling out of your room like nothin ever happened.5)check on little bro...I'm still thinkin on that one. As for the Goth question, shelly you sound like a pretty good kid, who may or may not have a mom with high tech survalence capibilities. From what I understand Goth is more based around an attitude or state of mind based on brooding and dread adout this whole industrial-petro-chemical-7-11-politico-curupto world in which we live. But on the other hand with or society being soooooooooooo obsessed with image youll probably be in juvi by summer, This what you do check the pets again, listen to your mom, eat your vegis, and forget this whole goth thing anyways. Do you really need some antique attitude/fasion to tell the world who or what you are. of course not (all though the pants were clicking) . Of course you don't. be your own person you are woman let's here you roar.

Sorry kid but it does look a little gothic to me. The shoes and shirt are okay but the pants do give that gothy look. Try some other stores for black jeans(that are cute) then i'm sure your mom will be fine with them. If you want the shoes go to the vans outlet the are way cheaper there : ) Why do u want black jeans...if its starting to warm up? Just a thought*

and so...??? is being "goth" a bad thing??? i have worked at hot topic before, and i have always shopped there & still continue to do so, and i am not a teenager!!! just because u might want to wear a certain type of clothing, other people think they have the right to judge you simply based on appearances...for example, i myself have facial piercings, wild hair & wear a lot of clothes from places like hot topic...people have called me "emo", "punk", "goth", etc. & many times without speaking to me think that i am wild, stupid, trashy, whatever...yet, if they would take the time to find out more, they would discover that i am a college-educated English teacher who speaks 3 foreign languages & has lived abroad extensively...no offense intended toward your mother, but stereotypes are bs!!!

I love your clothing that you have chosen out. Mabey you should talk to your mom on how she feels about goths. Mabe she thinks bad of them. Personally I would wear that stuff too, and I am not GOTH at all. Mabe you could compromise with her. I mean by wearing a brighter plain shirt with those pants or something. Mabe then she will be less hesatant of getting you those clothes.

stop it with the stereotypes
dress how your want. You can dress in black or "goth" and be on the honor roll. don't generalize and think that just because a person dresses "gothy" means that all they do is sit around at home and cut or something. Or say that all blonds are stupid.
