How can I take pictures with my Mac?

I have a webcamera connected but I don't know which program to use to take pictures. Please suggest a free program , and no, I do not have photobooth.

Taking pictures to use as your buddy icon

You can use your built-in iSight camera to take a picture of yourself to use as your buddy icon. Anyone who has you in their Buddy List will be able to see your smiling (or grouchy) mug.

To do this:

1. Open iChat AV.
2. From the Buddies menu, choose Change My Picture.
3. In the resulting Buddy Picture window, click the Camera button next to "Take Video Snapshot."
4. Say "cheese" and voila—instant mug shot!


Taking a video snapshot

If you have a FireWire camera connected to your computer, you can use it to take a video snapshot. Then you can use the snapshot next to your name in the login window, in your card in Address Book, and as your buddy icon in iChat AV.

1. Open System Preferences and click Accounts.
2. Select your account and click Picture.
3. Click Edit.
4. Click Take Video Snapshot. After a slight delay, the camera captures a still video image.
5. Drag the slider to make the image smaller or larger.
6. Drag the image until the part you want is inside the crop box.
7. Click Set when you're finished.
