First, Islam does have many variations within the religion.
The Sunni-Shiite conflict is just one of many examples.

Second, democracy has nothing to do with religion.
As long as the population is willing to vote and accept the decision of the majority, then democracy can work.

Remember, democracy is nothing more than might-makes-right majority rule. It has nothing inherently to do with freedom or diversity. In fact, the only way a democracy has freedoms is the majority allows them, or if there is some higher legal authority (a Constitution, for example) that protects them.

But you do raise one valid point. An outside group can never "bring democracy" to anyone. Democracy must be voluntary

A higher % of Iraq's people went out to vote more % than in our own country, many of them have been murdered for doing so and still they went out and voted again, not only do they want Democracy they want the freedom that comes with it. The Americans that are protesting the war are the ones giving strength to the enemy to continue the fight, they should be called on it. We as Americans need to stand up together and see this war thru.
