Because of my work,I have to carry my office; my laptop,my blackberry and every thing else with me eveyr where I go. I get interrupted by phone calls from my customers in the evening, even when I am making love. DO you think we are dealing with new addictions and people should seek help if they hooked on too much technology ?

Yes technology is definately addictive. As a technician its a requirement to stay up with the play with all the latest technologies and as managment its a requirement to write reports almost daily and to be contactable sometimes 24 hours a day.

However, the trick is in time managment and strategies you can use with this technology i.e. the ability to turn your phone to record mode or simply to turn it OFF. After all new technology is suppose to make things easier for you.

Managing your stress levels i.e. taking time out, execising, making love should also be a standard daily requirment for everyone

If you have trouble separating your home life (i.e. making love or relaxing for a few hours) from your work life then perhaps it is time to seek help because this is not jjust affecting you, it also affects your family and loved ones.

Technology isn’t addictive, here are some things that are addictive:
Caffeine
Cocaine
Heroin
Nicotine

Notice anything? They are all chemicals, or contain chemicals. Something can’t be addictive if it isn’t physically causing the release of an addicting neurotransmitter, dopamine.

However, can people be addicted to technology?
Well… sort of, you can be addicted to using something technological. I don’t know enough to addiction to know what you can be addicted to, but I am aware than anything that falls into the category of receiving external gratification by interacting with it, gambling, sex, video games. I would suspect people can’t be addicted to an inanimate object, or concept. You can’t be addicted to technology any more than you can be addicted to the speed of light. You can’t be addicted to your blackberry any more than a garden gnome. You can be addicted to checking your blackberry for message, whatever that gets you. The addiction isn’t ‘technology’, it is the thing someone thinks they are getting form using it. I don’t know what that is, and I’m not sure anyone does.

I think it is a bit crazy for people to always have there cell phones. Personally I don't have one, I don't like being on call 24/7.

It's hard for you because your job requires it.

In this day and age technology has become a necessity in order to keep in touch with people, find good deals when shopping and doing things fast, so it makes everything more convenient and allows people to do more things but a lot of those things don't even need to be done.

Yes, I am addicted to the internet and my cell phone but I don't think people should get help if they are hooked on to it.

If we were not addicted, we would not have a thing such as Yahoo Answers. We have all become slaves to technology.
