something related to the environment will also be a good topic. for example, global warming and oil.

don't use that topic. It's been used too often, as well as "how does violence on tv affect our youth" (don't use that one either). Try something like the effects of technology on society. Discuss how things like the Internet (MySpace) or tv are cutting us off from reality, how we'd rather sit and text with our phones than talk to someone face to face. Basically, how the things we used to value, like face to face conversations, are being corrupted by technology and we are slowly losing the ability to function as proper human beings.

That's a good one. Another good one is teenage pregnancy, or legalizing marijuana. Just take a little time to write down arguments for each side of the debate. Organize your thoughts, and it should flow pretty easily :)
