There's actually been more than 20 Bond films.
They're all self contained stories, and do not necessarily have to chronological, unlike Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.
Casino Royale is indeed the first of the Bond books by Ian Fleming, and the producers felt it was a good story.

The answer is they don't care anymore what they do to the story line. They stopped caring when they brought Sean Connery back to play Bond in Never Say Never Again. That makes him an old Bond past retirement age. There was also the original Casino Royale which was a comedy and had hundreds of Bonds. So, like I said. They don't care.

Were those movies supposed to make sense?? I definitely missed something in the years I watched them, beginning decades ago. I'm sure more "serious viewers" saw a "scheme" or "plan" or overall whatever, but I can tell you seriously that never, in all my viewing of James Bond movies did I ever look for a "bigger picture". But then, I guess that's obvious by my answer. God Bless you.

All the Bond movies are supposed to be movies in itself with no chronological order.
All the Bond movies have 1 storyline: Save the world from terrorists. Do you really need to watch them in any particular order to understand the plot?

They don't need to make sense as long as Daniel Craig continues to be James Bond! What a hottie! Ladies, do you agree?
