I just got a nice little 1 gallon tank that I want to put my sweet little fishy in. The instructions say to run the tank filter for at least two days before introducing any fish, but these are instructions for people that have to de-chlorinate their water. I got my water from a well source, which has worked well for all of my fish in regular bowls. Can I put my little guy in right now? I've had it plugged in for about two hours.

Sure you can put him in. As long as there is no chlorine and the temperature is ok and the tank filter and everything is working then you are good to go. Adding a little gravel from one of your bowls would be a good idea too, to help get the cycle going faster. Add the gravel after 2 days when there will be some ammonia in the water and it will cycle very fast.

If the temperature of the water is room temperature, it should be okay. Put some of the water he's in now in a plastic bag, put him in the bag and let the bag float for 15-20 minutes, or long enough to equalize the temperatures, then scoop him out of the bag, and put him in the new tank. If you've never put a betta fish in well water, you may need to add a de-chlorinater anyway, before you put him in, because de-chlorinaters also remove any heavy metals in water, and there may be some in your well water, which could prove to be bad for you fish. Hope that helps- good luck!

If you love your fish enough, you should wait the 2 days that they say. It's not just rules for putting chemicals in the tank but it needs to be the perfect temperature or they will go belly up.
I've gone through too many fish and I have become very careful when it comes to them.

as long as there isn't much of a temperature difference between the water he's in now and the water in the tank and you don't have any chlorine problems with your water, i say go ahead and put him in. you should think about giving him a little plant (real or plastic) for some "hiding spots" also if you haven't already!
have fun :)

I'd let it run for at least 12-24 hours to be on the safe. That little water shouldn't be too much trouble
