The series hasn't finished yet.
At the end of the anime, the story had not concluded and they weren't together, they were still after Naraku and searching for the shards.
Unfortunatly, although it's been years later, the manga is not over yet still, so they are still on their mission and it hasn't revealed wheather or not Kagome and Inuyasha would be together or not.

in the last episode of the cartoon, they vow to continue to look for naraku. in the manga series still looking too.

NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF COUPLES!!!! -sorry i just hate that put together- i dunno... stopped watching it b/c of Kagome... she's so annoying!
