Briggs does not recommend a non-detergent oil... lol.... (non detergent is ND-30 oil, suitable for water pumps maybe)
They recommend a HD-30 weight (straight HIGH detergent 30 weight) above 40 degrees Fahrenheit... use a 10w-30 or 5w-30 conventional below 40... using a straight weight will result in poor starting and engine damage.. Using a conventional multi-weight can result in oil consumption so check it often...
OR just use a 10w-30 or 5w-30 synthetic all year round...
Change the oil every 25-30 hours... if it has a oil filter... that every 50 hours..
Check the oil often (I recommend every time you go to use it at first)

Go back to the place where you purchased the engine or call them. They might have a special lubricating oil ,because the smaller the engine, the hotter they,ll get and you,ll get thermo -
break down thus breaking down the viscosity. like a chain saw they take special oil on account they get screaming hot.DO NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES.
