I have been saying the exact same thing to so many people. Its great and all to do something good but why start at the other end of the world when you havent even been able to help the problems in your own backyard.

There was a singer named Josephine Baker, from the early 1900's after her career had faltered she bought a home in France and began to adopt children from all over the world. She wanted a rainbow family. Josephine Baker was black. It made a media sensation then also. I believe that somewhere Angelina Jolie has adopted that idea of a rainbow family based on whatever Epiphany she had at time she decided to adopt her first child. I believe she was touched by the sorrowfulness of the orphanages in the particular country she was shooting a movie in and her heart moved her to take one of the children. It must have been a joy and blessing she did it several more times. I agree that perhaps Ms. Jolie could consider american children but the kids come with so much baggage from crazy parents that they are fairly ruined. Until you understand the whole concept of american children in foster care your comments are without merit. There are thousands of loving children in foster care but the courts can not always release these children because the parents still have parental control. Some of the children are so psychologically damaged they will have to have care until they are 18 and released into society. I would have loved to adopt and took the classes but the stories about the kids led me abandon the idea. I didn't think I had the patience or perseverance required to work through the trauma these children have endured. Not to say all but a good 80 percent and this is why they are in foster care now. I say if they want to adopt from other countries they may know what I know and I am just a regular person. I don't know about Madonna and the real reasons but at least one child on this earth has got a home for what ever reason. Alot of the stars pay people to have babies for them at least Ms Jolie and Madonna didn't.

I don't know why celebrities are focusing on other countries. All I can think is that children here in the U.S. are treated so much better than they are in other countries. A lot of celebrities are focusing on 3rd world countries where children are kept in cribs and are never picked up and loved or played with. These children can be 16 years old and be the size of a 2 year old with the a very small amount of intellect because they are never stimulated. I think different people feel "called" in their heart to do certain things. Everyone is different. We can't say that this person shouldn't adopt from another country because maybe that is where their heart is. And my thought is let them adopt because it's REALLY HARD for any one of us blue collar people to adopt from another country. If a celebrity can do it just because of their status, let them get kids that they will love and help to grow up into happy, healthy, well nourished and adjusted adults.

Children in all countries need homes. A lot of times because of the hoops and legal costs associated with adoption including home visits, many would be parents are looking for other options. After visiting some other countries, what we consider poor living standards here are even worse there. Celebrity adoption on the news is only a small percentage to everyday folks who don't get this much scrutiny. And anyone who is willing to adopt, shouldnt be vilified.

I think that ppl here that think celebs do it for the press are really sad and sheltered individuals. My family has adopted out of the country and considered both. This is a big decision and of course its personal preference and experience especially for ppl like angelina who are ambassadors for the UN and see the poverty these children live in. In america the adoption agencies are like 5 star hotels compared to the ones abroad. Here children have opportunities to live and thrive successfully. The get free schooling and they're government funded. Abroad, a large poriton are privately funded by organizations abroad, and education is NOT free. Yes kids here need help and deserve to be adopted, and there are plenty of ppl that do decide to adopt domestically but you have to have a lot of respect for ppl that take children out of situations where the average life expectancy is 22. Give them a break, they're doing an outstanding job and ppl that knock them probably have never stepped foot into a 3rd world country and experienced or seen the pain and suffering of those children.
Its absolutely ridiculous to say they do it for exposure and publicity. Its a childs life and those children are in their lives FOREVER! There are many things you can do for publicity and adopting children isn't one of them. Take jolie, she would have stoped a long time ago if this was for sh**s and giggles. Come on people, grow a heart.

Do you have any idea of how hard it is to adopt children from the US, it is all but impossible. Celebrities and other people are adopting children from other countries as it is the only way to adopt children. There are children in other countries who are going wanting and if people in the US don't adopt them they will never have homes. Don't be so judgemental, these people are doing what is right, they are doing something wonderful. Look into how hard it is to adopt American children and then you will understand what is going on and not stand in judgement.

It is strictly for publicity or they would adopt a baby or child here that needs a home. What other reason could there be? Do you think Angelina or Madonna would have their picture in People Magazine if they adopted some orphan from Illinois? I don't think so. It wouldn't even be newsworthy.
You know if these movie stars that have a ton of money really wanted to help, they would build a nice orphanage in those countries to help many children not just the one LUCKY one they bring home like a pet from the humane society.

you are correct however there are many more children who need families EVERYWHERE. and there are many more people helping children in america they get tons more help. than small no name countries that nobody even knows about. and americans already are helping the kids here but most people arent helping the kids over there. this spread the idea of helping other more needy countries than the usa. all in all it doesnt really matter the point is that they are doing a great cause.

i imagine a similar about this issue (i'm no longer American, i'm British, yet nevertheless I agree including your factors one hundred%) and that i locate it very worrying that there looks exceedingly a lot a form putting by ability of celebrities of adopting a overseas infant as if they're some thing of an unique accent or novelty merchandise, particularly than a baby. sure, they provide those little ones sturdy houses and robust lives, yet as you say there are distinct little ones of their personal countries who want a house and relatives too, and the ethnicity of the youngster in question shouldn't count number.

My parents have adopted four children from overseas. They have also fostered for many American children and tried to adopt them, but it didn't work out.
The American foster system is messed up. It is so corrupt. Children go from home to home to home, constantly abused (physically, emotionally, sexually). My parents fostered a group of siblings for a while, but they were so messed up... the girl was 7 and offering blowjobs and grinding on male relatives laps. One of the boys tried to kiss and do other sexual things with my younger brother and sister. They are damaged, and it's not their fault, but straight up, my parents wanted kids that weren't f*cked up from all the abuse. Orphanages are actually not that bad - you get this Oliver Twist thing in your head but it's all wrong. The children are treated fairly, they are not abused, they are fed and usually go to school. People work at those orphanages because they genuinely care for those children and want them to find better homes overseas. However, life is very difficult for all orphans.
My parents were even in the process of adopted a young black boy, and even though he said he wanted to live with our family (which is multiracial by the way), we were denied, because we were white. Now tell me that's not a little flawed. Sorry, but there just aren't a lot of black families in our area looking to adopt 10 year olds. And so he's still in the foster system.
I do not support the America foster system, I think we need to fight this by encouraging birth control and safer sex, and not brainwashing girls to think they'll go to Hell for getting an abortion. I think it's corrupt, I think there are many families who use the system to get money and do not treat their foster kids well. It's a very difficult process, not much harder than it is to do it in China.
