right ok well firstly you will need to practice the splits for at least a minute per leg each day. However if the tryouts are relatively soon then i would suggest doing this three times a day (morning, afternoon, and night) as it will help you become more flexible quicker. Normally the majority of people find the front way splits easier than sideways so i would recommend practicing these more often.
Then in order to learn how to twirl...do you mean a pirouette? To do this takes alot of time and a lot of practise. Firstly you must undertsnad that there are a number of points that you must do in order to turn properly.
Firstly: Spotting. Befoer you push off to turn you must focus your eyes on a point, then push off and turn around however make sure that you whip you head around as quick as you can and focus back on the same point.
Secondly: A good push off. You need to make sure that you bend your knees properly to allow a good push off from the floor. This is because this, combined with all of the other pointers, is what will help you get round properly.
Thirdly: A Good strong arm. As you about to push off make sure that your arms are quite strong an as you turn whip you second arm in as it will help you balance.
FINALLY: BALANCE!! by this i mean that whilst your turning make sure that you arent leaning back as you will find it harder to turn or will ultimatly fall over.

I hope this has helped you, otherwise go onto to google.com or yahoo.com and search for pirouette instructions.

Practice practice practice.....But make sure you consult someone first like one of the girls already in the group so that you do't hurt yourself, as silly as it sounds, as it is only too easy to when trying to do the splits.

Definately seek help from one of the girls that is currently on the team. You can get seriously hurt trying to do a split if you don't do it slowly and correctly.
