Well, you've asked a question that is not possible to be answered by anyone but yourself.

Okay, let's look at this. The first thing you need to find out is, is this inside an existing building where you'd pay rent, or would you be building from scratch?

This is the first and biggest expense you'd have. If you'd be leasing, the rent amount will depend on the location and the landlord, which means you could shop around for the rent amount you'd be comfortable with.

Next comes restaurant supplies and fixtures .. probably from a restaurant supply house. You'll need to find a reputable one in your area. The cost of these will vary, depending on what you select and who you purchase them from.

If you want to do a franchise, you'd pick the company you wanted to deal with and contact them about the details for that. Most of the time, it's much less expensive to open your own place because you're buying the use of the name of the franchise, much as you do when you purchase name-brand jeans.

Okay, so once you've made these decisions, you'll need a staff and you'll need to know local laws about minimum wage (it varies from state to state, sometimes).

Then there are the licenses and fees. There are DBA papers to be filed with the county in which you want to do business. There are lease contracts and probably a food-handling permit, sales tax permit, and if you're building a building, there are all the building permits and inspections to deal with.

Then there are the quarterly taxes on employee wages and the employer's share of taxes to be paid, both federal and state. And, you'll want to hire a professional bookkeeper to take care of payroll, tax forms, and the regular bookkeeping chores. You'll need a business bank account, for which the fees vary bank to bank.

And, then there are uniforms or polo shirts with a company emblem on them, caps for employees, and .. oh yes, health department inspections, pest control, and waste disposal fees.

Once you have an idea of what all of these will be, you'll know what it will cost you to start this kind of business.

Just to ballpark it, it takes about 80-100K to start a fast food, small fast food joint and thats renting and using your own made up name. Just ask any fujianese in the us and they can probably answer this.
