I have a 2001 Ford Sport Trac. It began to run rough (especially cold or idle) immediatly after getting a smog check. The mechanic insisted that he didn't have to unplug/disconnect anything to do the smog. "It's all visual."

I don't trust that he hasn't done something accidently. Now he wants to look at it and charge me. It seems too coincidental.

Sounds like a vacuum leak by the symptoms you describe. Those 4.0L SOHC V6 engines are extremely sensitive to vacuum leaks. Check for cracked or rotted PCV hoses. You could also have leaking lower intake rubber o-rings.

Strange as it may be there isn't much of anything that the
Smog Station could have done to create your concerns,
Cold Function and Idle functions are controlled by various
means in your car and none of these would have been addressed when the car was checked...

perform a BBB search on this business....if he has prior complaints they will show up on the website....

print it out....take the document with you....and tell him that if the truck isn't running right by the time you leave, you will take him to small claims court....and report him to the BBB as well as CARB and BAR. His license can be revoked if wrongdoing is found.....CARB or BAR may request that you have your vehicle brought in for inspection....if they do, have NO work done to it prior to your visit....

if they find something was done......this technician will get himself into A LOT of trouble.

if you have any more Q's attach a yahoo to my username and I will steer you to the right people.
