Most people can't tell the difference anyways.

Did you know there are more Irish people in the US than in Ireland? There are 34.7 million U.S. residents who claim Irish ancestry. This number is almost nine times the population of Ireland itself (4.2 million). So chances are, most of us have a little bit of Irish heritage deep down.

I think it has alot to do with two reasons, one many people are not necessarily Irish but alot do have Irish ancestry. Alot of Irish have mixed blood and some are just a wee bit IRISH. As for the celebrating thing, St. Patty's day seems to bring out the best in people and it has been a long standing tradition to welcome everyone into the celebrations, everyone is Irish on St patty's day. There are alot of other cultures who join in the festivities because it was made that way. An finally who can pass up a chance to get drunk and have some fun?

Well, I'm Irish so I have an excuse. It is to honor my heritage and faith. (Since the reason for having it is because St. Patrick drove the Pagan faith out of Ireland and introduced Christianity.) I told my non-irish best friend that he had to have permission from an irish person to celebrate and he had my permission.

Because when we first celebrated St. Patricks Day in the U.S. it was officially declared that on that day, everyone would be Irish.

Because there are more Irish people in the US than in all of Ireland. (9 times more)

The Irish were one of the largest groups of immigrants in the US...especially after the potato famine. Many people are of Irish decent and don't even know it..

Many celebrate it as a religious holiday in honor of St. Patrick...it was originally celebrated in Ireland because he ran all the snakes (pagans) out of Ireland.

And who wouldn't want to celebrate a holiday where you drink Guiness, green beer, good fattening food like potatoes, catch leprechauns, and kiss total strangers?

Actually, it is originally a Christian holiday to honor Saint Patrick. Not an Irish holiday. And I'm pretty sure, brew had nothing to do with it.

So the question really is.....why do NON-Christians celebrate St. Pat's Day, and Christmas, and Easter, and SAINT Valentines Day?

it is Paddy's Day. nicely, i'm Irish, and that i do rejoice St. Patrick's Day. i'm obliged to. yet i'm getting fairly aggravated on the shown fact that people extra often than no longer have this concept that they are Irish in some way. I propose, maximum of them have in no way even been to eire and picture it is all in basic terms huge fields infested with merry little leprechauns. i do no longer circulate around celebrating the 4th of July, and that i noticeably do no longer make a much bigger deal of it than the people themselves, even in spite of the shown fact that i've got kinfolk living there!

Why do non- Mexicans celebrate Cinco De Mayo?
Why do non-Christans celebrate Easter?
Why do White people celebrate MLK day?
Because everything is commercialized!
