I really think the music today isnt about the music anymore. Its more about selling the most albums and making the most money. The songs arent even good, its just a repeat of the "hippest" song the week before.
all the artist has to do now is make a song that only says "ride low in my escalade" and it will be a hit.

thats my opionion

I agree to a certain degree because yes there are fake artist out there that continually repeat the same lyrics but with a different beat or sound and it just get so redundant. But there are some artists that care more about the music rather than the sales because they express their feeling through the words and the lyrics like the red jumpsuit apparatus stepped outside the box and sang a song warning kids about abusive relationships.

I just think that some artist just lost sight of what they feel and just see the money and gullible fans instead.

That's not mostly music because it's either the drug/violence induced rap/hiphop, or the totally emo rock/alt.rock/emo/screamo/etc./etc. And the radio stations are so not helping.

It's all comes down to the fact that music is no longer music, and pop music seems to be the only thing left to listen to, aside from blues and jazz which are mostly dominated by the older generation (such as Shania Twain, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Faith Hill,etc.). Once in a while you'll find a seemingly talented singer (Christina Anguilera, JoJo, Britney Spears, etc.) only to have them ruined by procovative images, some personal issues (drug/alcohol/broken marriage) or simply a horrid song that goes with the flow.

It's far too easy to get into the music industry nowadays, especially if you have strings to pull. The whole boy band/girl group scenario is totally cliched. They get together, sing a couple of hit songs, then one of them is convinced that he/she is the true talent of the group, and they break up, only to have one or two of them actually going on in their career.

The singers don't even write their own songs anymore, they have managers who hire lyricists and composers to do it for them. Literally, they're putting them on a leash and the songs they come up with never differ very much because it's probably all written by the same person.

So the one thing is: Who's going to save it?

Yes, I feel that music is no longer about writing talent, self-expression or art. I stopped listening to the radio almost 10 years ago because I was sick of what was coming out of Top 40. Things haven't changed since then. Every "musician" sounds the same; I can't tell them apart. And it seems that they all try to imitate each other and imitate the current "in" sound, whether it's grunge alternative (when I was in college), pop boy bands or R&B urban. Performers these days just want to jump on the sound bandwagon because, like you said, they want to do what's hot and sell the albums. There's no more originality or craft. It's all about performance, and if you watch American Idol, you'll know that this show is about performance and not about artistry and songwriting.

The days of touching people's hearts and moving souls with music doesn't exist in Top 40 anymore. If you listen to Josh Rouse, you'll find he's one of the rare, somewhat undiscovered gems out there. http://www.joshrouse.com

THe music on the charts is about making money for sure. But look more towards the underground scene in your city, there you will find some real musicians who want to sing about things that mean something and don't want to rip off their clothes on a video clip. THey don't get their huge break because they wont sell out and turn their music into a capitalist entity. they want keep it their art.

Rap & hip-hop have completely RUINED music.
Even today's R&B songs are nothing but 3 different singers singing 3 different songs, yet recorded as one.
I HATE that!
It's not about the music...it's all about getting the money to buy more "bling".

I am leaning more & more toward country.....because at least they are still putting love, fan appreciation, originality, and romance in their songs.

You just don't see country singers "sampling" (AKA STEALING) parts of other, better artists' songs in their music.

That's true but you do need to look deep and find artist that sing about something real. They don't get much play on the radio though and that is what those other "artist " to sell records is to make crap that sells to make money.

HAHA, yep, emo and rap and all the other popular stuff like pop for example suck, the best genres of music are rock and metal because they have original tabs and lyrics, good singing, and the lyrics actually represent a meaning

Too much of the "Fake Music" these days has inspired to go back to the past and look much deeper into Prog Rock, and Symphonic/Rock music, to restore my faith not only in literacy, but in humanity too. Much of the mainstream Pop these days is only suitable for adolescents who do not read.
