that is totally up to you on where your experience is and what you are interested in. stick with those two principles and you will do fine. check out this e-Seminar http://ultimatebusinesstoolbox.com there is 2 hours of free audio, but it is a course for people who want to start a business and want the advice from a professional. it comes with a money back policy. the most important thing about getting into any business is to make sure that there is a market for what it is that you are selling. this course can take you through that process quickly.

I'm not sure what you have checked into but I am a Mary Kay sales Director so can give you some info about becoming a consultant. When you say very little income to start with I'm not sure what that is but can help you work around any limited funds. With Mary Kay there are no territories and no quotas. It is your own business and you make half of everything you sell. It is your choice whether you begin your business with inventory OR if you choose to work your way up. The initial one time fee is $100 which pays for your starter kit. The kit includes over $300 in retail size product, all of the training materials and supplies that you need to get started. There in ongoing training which is absolutely free. If you don't have the $100 to get started I have a couple of ways to help you come up with the amount. Mary Kay has been around since 1963 so it is well know and pretty much sells itself. It has been the #1 brand of skin care and color cosmetics since 1993 and the best part is that it is consumable so the products are washed down the drain making reorders a big part of your income. I know there are A LOT of pushy Mary Kay consultants around but I am not one of them and would be more than happy to get you more info with no obligation if you're interested. If not then I want to wish you luck in whatever you choose.

With little to no start up cost, it's the best we have found.
My wife and I both have a home based business, that we do part time and make any where from $800 to $1500 a month just working part time from home. Our goal is for my wife to stay home with the children our two girls ages 3 and 16. Right now it's part time, but eventually it will be full time for the wife so she can do the business and stay home with the kids.
The company has been in business for over 27 years, does business in 64 countries around the world, did over 3 billion $ in sales sales last year just from people working from home, and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
We got started here at http://www.herbalhomebiz.com Take a look, we both do the business and it's our answer to be able to stay home with kids and earn a nice income. Our mentor earns $8,000 a month just from working at home, and she is a single mom!

I think the best kind of business to get into these days is health and wellness. This is something the baby boomers are looking for and they have the most disposable income as well as being open to alternate streams of income.
Because of the many benefits of this product that I market, you are not limiting your market in any way. It's something that is beneficial for all ages and both sexes. It goes over very well with athletes because it gives them stamina and endurance as well as cuts their recovery time in half. It's safe for pregnant women as well as babies, and everyone finds it has beneficial effects right away.
The start up cost is low, less than $200 USD, and if you and your husband really put the effort into it, you could be earning a very lucrative income in a short period of time. You get full training and mentoring to help you achieve your goals, and it really is a lot of fun. You can work this on the internet, over the telephone and person to person, all methods work well as people are actively looking for a product that helps with health and anti-aging.

What are your hobbies in? stumble on a area of interest marketplace, brainstorm a product that they could wish and which they had be drawn to figuring out to purchase from you, stumble on the uncooked components (and make it) or act as agent with wholesalers imparting the products. that's this variety of huge variety question that no-one would supply you an in intensity answer that ought to paintings suitable for you. i could recommend getting a pair of copies of Entrepreneur magazine and Inc. magazine, they the two supply excellent articles on small business enterprise at low fee.

My husband and I have an online/offline retail business that might work for you. I can't give you details here since it's against the rules of this site but send me an email if you'd like more information.

EBay. You can start off by selling things you don't need right now, that may still be of use to someone. Then I would develop my niche, insted of selling random items online. The costs are fairly low, its pretty easy to do, and you may find several resources where you can get items cheap, below cost, or in bulk.
