1 Mouse, will. Mostly for PS/2 and USB mice they just 'work' If you want to use special features you'll need the software to drive them.
2 Scanner, it could . . . probably not though
3 Printer, it could . . . probably not though
4 External Drive . . . depending on the interface it will probably work. If it's USB or USB2 then it will probably work. This one more depends on the drive and connection. If it's eSATA and your SATA controller is already working then it will also just probably work. For USB and USB2 they mostly will show up as a mass storage controler and just work out of the box. Want the special features like one touch backup of some external dirve, you'll need the software intsalled.

1 mouse - this one should come with the O/S
2 scanner - most probably not - since scanner don't a standard driver, different manufacturer use different method. Use the Driver CD that come with the scanner or download the driver from vendor websites.
3 printer - Yes, but if your printer is a new model or not a very popular model, what you can do is to find a model that is similar to your printer model. If all fail, use the hp laserjet 4 driver. (this driver mostly with with all printer).
4 external hard disk drive - yes - external hard disk drive is normally recognised the moment you plugged-in the usb cable to the usb slot.
hope the above answer helps. :-)

Scanner , printer and Mouse will always be inbuilt.
Printer drivers however need to be updated quite often , refer to manufactures hand book for details.
External hard drivers normally come with an installation disk containing the needed drivers. Most plug in and play devices such as USB connections will work however without drivers.
I hope this helps.

Number 4 external hard drive disk becuase all computer needs a Disk Operating System or it won't work.
The guy who answered first, said that mouse, scanner is input and printer and external hard disk is output device which is right.
